The Town on the Sound is the locale for a variety of hometown events that underscore the meaning of community. For a complete experience of life in this Town, make time to participate in these traditional Americana events. Soldiers and airmen from nearby military installations often comment while attending local events that its "just like home". Each summer Steilacoom hosts a free outdoor concert series in Pioneer Orchard Park, located one block west of Lafayette Street. The concert season usually begins on the Wednesday before the Fourth of July and continues through mid August. A complete concert schedule is available at the Steilacoom Community Center: 2301 Worthington Street, Phone: 581-1076, or posted online Click Here.

The Grand Old Fourth of July is a daylong event that begins with a Fun Run really early in the morning, and concludes with a Gala Fireworks Display over Puget Sound. There is a Street Fair, Street Dance, Beer Garden, and, of course, a Parade.

A few weeks after the Town's Independence Day celebration, is the Salmon Bake. The traditional feast features resident Chef Don Rehburg's famous Secret Salmon Sauce. After almost 25 years, the event last year was expanded to include a Classic Car Show. The Bake takes place at Sunnyside Beach on the last Sunday of July.

The third Saturday in August, dig out those treasures hidden away in your attics, basements, closets, and garages. Rent a space on the Tennis Court or register with the Chamber of Commerce and hold the sale at your residence within the town. Your address will be included on a map which will be distributed to bargain seekers the day of the sale.

Another town tradition, on the first Sunday in October, is a mammoth Apple Squeeze Celebration to honor all things Apple. Downtown is the place where people can purchase jugs of the fresh-squeezed golden elixir, enjoy apple pie alamode, and buy a commemorative Steilacoom Apple Squeeze sweatshirt.

Lafayette Street is the place to be on the first Friday in December for the traditional Christmas Tree Lighting that takes place in the evening when Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive in a unique lighted sleigh accompanied by elves and reindeer.
